Julian Lennon Performs ‘IMAGINE’ for Global Citizen’s Stand Up For Ukraine w/Nuno Bettencourt

I thought I would share Julian’s public performance of his Dad’s truly great, beautiful and moving song from earlier this week...

What Julian Says About His Moving Performance on His YouTube Page

“The War on Ukraine is an unimaginable tragedy… As a human, and as an artist, I felt compelled to respond in the most significant way I could.

So today, for the first time ever, I publicly performed my Dad’s song, IMAGINE. Why now, after all these years? – I had always said, that the only time I would ever consider singing ‘IMAGINE’ would be if it was the ‘End of the World’…

But also because his lyrics reflect our collective desire for peace worldwide. Because within this song, we’re transported to a space, where love and togetherness become our reality, if but for a moment in time…

The song reflects the light at the end of the tunnel, that we are all hoping for…

As a result of the ongoing murderous violence, millions of innocent families, have been forced to leave the comfort of their homes, to seek asylum elsewhere.

I’m calling on world leaders and everyone who believes in the sentiment of IMAGINE, to stand up for refugees everywhere! Please advocate and donate from the heart.

#StandUpForUkraine” —Julian Lennon

I can only imagine what John would have to say right now about what is happening in the Ukraine…

  1. Ah Sean – I came across this yesterday and as I was listening I closed my eyes and I was so moved that I shed some tears. Watching this posted video here has made me cry all over again. I have a lot of respect for Julian Lennon (and his Mom). This is so deeply moving. The guitarist is exceptional as well. Whew! I am going through some tissues over here Sean!

    • Thank you for your very moving comments, Rita. Julian has a bit of a special connection over we are. He has supported our Telethon in the past (which is still the most successful fund raising telethon in the world – $400M over 54 years) re our children’s hospital. Linda used to go in and volunteer on the phone overnight back then. Here is a link to a clip of his lovingly remembered appearance here all those years ago: https://youtu.be/4YhhkX8z4ZU

  2. Unfortunately, “Imagine” is an anti-god harangue against what the Bible calls the Christ-follower to recognize. There IS a Heaven and a hell, and building a world on the false premise that these do not exist is the same mistake every despot, dictator, globalist and nudist makes: trying to bring in the benefits of Kingdom of God . . . without God.
Someday the 2nd and 3rd stanzas of Lennon’s “dream” will come true, but not without Heaven and hell. We each have a choice to make, and The God Who Is will honor our choice.
    ❤️&🙏, c.a.

    • My thoughts are that John Lennon is often misunderstood. Imagine’s lyrics are no exception. It hasn’t helped that John at times would give provocative responses to questions, when feeling frustrated. So, there is a wide range of interpretation out there as a result. First and foremost, John wanted people to think about what he was saying. When you piece together what John has said at various times, Yoko, the boys (Sean and Julian), Paul and others, you get a clear picture that he did want the world to be a beautiful place.
